Seminar led by The Rev’d Dr Ruth Mathieson
Preaching Luke: Looking at 21st Century Commentaries on Luke’s Gospel.

Date: Wednesday 16 February at 2-4pm
Venue: Cynthia Poulton Hall at St Peter’s Cathedral

Several new commentaries on Luke’s Gospel have been published in the last ten years including those with a focus on ecological listening (Michael Trainor, 2012), rhetorical analysis (Mikeal C Parsons, 2015), and feminist interpretation (Barbara E. Reid OP and Shelley Matthews, 2021). In this seminar particular attention will be given to The New Cambridge Bible Commentary co-written by Amy-Jill Levine (a feminist Jewish New Testament scholar) and Ben Witherington III (a Methodist evangelical New Testament scholar), which builds bridges several ways.
