Governance at
St Peter’s Cathedral

Parishes in the Diocese of Adelaide are governed by a document of the Synod - the overall governing body for the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Adelaide - called the Parochial Administration Ordinance. This describes the roles and responsibilities of the clergy and other officers, as well as establishing committee and reporting structures.

The Cathedral has an additional document of Synod, the Cathedral Ordinance, which takes into account the unique character of the Cathedral in the life of the Diocese and the wider community.

Cathedral Council

The Cathedral Council is responsible for the management of Cathedral property and the administration of the affairs of the Cathedral and the congregation. It is also responsible for the management of the financial affairs of the Cathedral.

Council Committees

Synod is the major governance body within each Diocese of the Anglican Church of Australia. It meets at least annually, or more often if required. The Cathedral is represented on Synod by the licensed clergy and 5 lay members elected every three years by the Vestry.

Synod Representatives

The Nomination Committee meets in the event of a vacancy in the office of Dean. It includes representatives of the Diocese and 3 lay members elected annually by the Vestry.
