O praise God in his sanctuary...
Praise him in the blast of the ram‘s horn,
praise him upon the lute and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dances,
praise him upon the strings and pipe.
Praise him upon the high-sounding cymbals,
praise him upon the loud cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
(Psalm 150)
In designing the windows of the Choir, Cedar Prest has brought the colours and atmosphere of the Lady Chapel around to enfold the chancel.
The windows echo in vibrant colour the activities which go on beneath them. On the lectern side choristers in the Cathedral’s robes sing the offices; while on the pulpit side tuxedoed and t-shirted musicians glorify God on a variety of instruments, including a bass drum sporting the symbols of St Peter.
Above them angels, equipped with the other instruments mentioned in Psalm 150, add their heavenly harmonies in a glorious cacophany of light and colour and imagined sound.
The figures were drawn and painted by Lance Feeney.
