The Cathedral

St Peter’s Cathedral is first and foremost a place of worship and the Mother Church of the Anglican Diocese of Adelaide. The Cathedral is open to visitors throughout the week.

The Cathedral is a popular location for a wide variety of performances across the art-forms, with regular performances by the Cathedral Choir and organists, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Baroque, all of the city’s leading choirs, and many other highly regarded musicians from around the world.

The Cathedral comfortably seats 400 in the pews but an extra 175 chairs can be brought in. There is also a gallery which can seat 80 comfortably bringing the comfortable maximum seated capacity to around 650.

The principal musical feature of the Cathedral is the Grand Organ, which is available to external hirers subject to the approval of the Director of Music and/or the Cathedral Organist. An upright piano is available, or the Yamaha C5 grand piano from the Cynthia Poulton Hall can be moved at an additional fee.

There is an integrated sound system with handheld wireless, headset and wired microphones, and state-of-the art Fohhn speakers with hearing augmentation facilities. Professional hirers can plug their own mixing desk into the AV system.

There is also a selection of risers that can be used upon request.
