Baptism

Baptisms at St Peter’s Cathedral.

Baptism is a significant and joyful moment in a person’s life and we welcome anyone wishing to be baptised at St Peter’s Cathedral.  Along with Holy Communion, Baptism is one of the two Sacraments universally recognised by Christians and is patterned on Christ’s own Baptism.

Christ commanded his followers to baptise 'in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’. These words, along with water, are key elements in Baptism.

Baptism signifies cleansing and the washing away of sin and the new life that God gives through the Holy Spirit. It also identifies us with the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Baptism celebrates a new beginning as a member of Christ’s body and the person baptised is welcomed into the community of faith.
