Easter at St Peter's

We lived out the story of Chirst's death and resurrection in the Cathedral in worship and in music

At St Peter’s Cathedral, during Holy Week and the season of Easter this year, we trod alongside the most poignant time in the story of God – the time of Christ’s passion and death, and the new and unexpected time of Christ’s resurrection that followed. We lived out that story in the Cathedral in worship and in music, in times of busyness and times of quiet reflection.

Each day in the Cathedral in Holy Week, there was the opportunity to take part in a Eucharist; each day, music was played through the Meditation Series.  There were short concerts on Monday and Tuesday, the Tenebrae service on Wednesday, and on Good Friday, the solemn music closed with the Miserere Mei choral meditation recital at 3pm. A particularly beautiful time for reflection was offered on Maundy Thursday at night, after the 7.30pm Eucharist, when there was time to keep watch in the Lady Chapel as we remembered the disciples failed attempts to stay awake with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane before his betrayal. On Easter Day, the joy of Easter was celebrated from the Dawn Lighting of the New Fire at 6.00am until the Festal Evensong at 7.00pm
