Support the Cathedral

How does the Cathedral pay for the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the building, as well as salaries of music, clergy and admin staff?  The Cathedral is financially self-supporting and receives no financial support from the government, relying on the generosity of current members and the general public to remain open and active in our community. We rely on the generosity of people like you.

How much should I give? That’s an interesting question which only you can answer.  The Old Testament concept of a tithe (10%) is helpful to some.  The New Testament suggest we give in a spirit of generosity following the example of Jesus – who gave his all.

Most regular Cathedral members are part of the planned giving programme.  You can contribute to the ministry of St Peter’s Cathedral weekly, monthly quarterly or annually, a sum of your choosing.  You can give by direct debit, direct credit, envelopes (weekly) or cheque. Can I change the amount I give?  Yes.  People’s circumstances change – for the better and for worse.

I am already a planned giver.  Do I need to fill in a form every year? Yes, it helps us keep our records up to date.  Thank you for what you are already doing.  Please don’t stop.

The offertory bags still come round during weekly services.  What do I do if I give electronically?  Pick up a small laminated offertory card on your way into church and place it in the offertory bag, as a sign of your commitment.

Due to the generosity of former generations bequests are a major support for the Cathedrals restoration and outreach projects. Please contact the office if you or a family member wishes to do so.
