Sunday School/Cathedral Kids is held during the 10:30 Eucharist on Sundays, teaching is offered for children in the Cynthia Poulton Hall. All babies and children who attend the service are invited to be part of the program. The children leave following the Gospel procession and return for Holy Communion. Parents are welcome to accompany their children. Alternatively, there is an activity area set aside for children in the aisle on the pulpit side of the Cathedral.
Admission to Communion
Children who are 7 years of age and older and are baptised (‘christened’) are allowed to receive Holy Communion after due preparation. Classes are offered from time to time. Preparations involve a 4 week course that is held at the same time as the Cathedral Kids – Sundays 10.45am to 11.30am (during the 10.30am Choral Eucharist)
A playgroup for pre-school children run as an outreach of St Peter’s Cathedral. The activities include free play with play dough, painting and the educational and creative toys. Snack time is always a favourite as they enjoyed nourishing food such as fruit, salad and hummus. After packing up most of the indoor toys the children enjoy a story and song time followed by time with musical instruments. Birthdays are celebrated and special occasions are planned such as dress up days, Sports day, Pancake Day, Easter and Christmas parties too. During school holidays outings to parks or museums are organised.
Play Group offers children a fun and constructive time together in a safe environment. While the parents supervise the children they also have time for a coffee and chat. The group meets on Tuesdays (during term times) between 10 am and 12 noon in the Cynthia Poulton Hall.
